Today, April 22nd, is recognized globally as #EarthDay, so I thought it fitting to introduce to some of you my absolute favorite design concept, Biophilic Design.
If you've been keeping up with me for a while, you would have heard me touch on this subject before, so let's recap. Shall we?
"Biophilia refers to humans' innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. Biophilic Design, and extension of biophilia, incorporates natural materials, natural light, vegetation, natural views, water, and other experiences of the natural world into the modern built environment." It has been linked to productivity, improvements in health, and decreased stress levels.
Pictured are a few examples of Biophilic Design that I found on Pinterest. Additionally, I designed an aquatic-themed pediatric facility, Oceanic Pediatrics, for my Commercial Design class back in college where we were required to incorporate this concept into our designs.
